Shale UK 2014 was a two-day conference, running from 4-5 March 2014 in London, that presented an authoritative state-of-the-art view of the geoscience relevant to shale gas exploration, production and environmental management in the UK.

Organised by Global Event Partners on behalf of the Geological Society of London, this conference provided a truly objective, scientific view. Our Managing Director James Dodds attended the conference, organised and chaired a session on hydrogeology and gave a presentation.

After the conference James commented: “having presented at and attended a few conferences last year on this subject, it was a pleasure to hear objectivity and good science from both national and international speakers who knew their subject and had real stories to tell.”

“While the focus was obviously on geoscience, the breadth of geoscience was represented from basin analysis and stratigraphy, to rock mechanics and hydrogeology. What became clear and immensely important is that while issues exist and care must be taken with shale gas development, the geological sciences view is that it can be developed in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner and that we have scientific, engineering and regulatory knowledge and controls to do that”.
