Envireau Water cooks up a storm to celebrate 25 years!

June 13, 2023

The Envireau Team recently enjoyed an away day with a twist, including training and team building exercise to celebrate 25 years of Envireau Water.

Founded in 1998 by our chairperson and Water Management Specialist, James Dodds, Envireau Water turns 25 in 2023! Starting with two employees operating out of a converted pub, the business has since grown to a team of 20 technical and supporting staff, based across four UK office locations, thanks to the loyalty and support of our clients.

Dr Phil Ham commented: “As the Managing Director of Envireau Water, I am proud to celebrate our 25th year of operation. For a quarter of a century, we have cemented ourselves as experts in solving complex water problems, keeping sustainability and quality at the forefront of every client solution.

Without our incredibly loyal client base, and our ever dedicated team of geoscientists we wouldn’t be the success story that we are. We are excited for our next phase of growth supported by the RSK Group.”

Of course, the last 25 years would not have been possible without the hard work of our growing team, which is why it’s so important for to us to give back to our employees and reap the benefits together as a collective.

We host quarterly training sessions that unite the team; and this time, we all got together to take part in a day packed full of training focussed on upskilling our team's client management skills, before taking part in some team building exercises. Whilst our team is spread across the UK in our four office locations, our ‘one company’ approach remains as strong as ever, and as always it was brilliant to bring everyone back together for full day of activities.

Our day began with the first of our quarterly team training sessions which centred on client management. Building on the exploration of social styles in our training session back in December, as a team we held an interactive where we investigated how we can continually improve as a team, and as individuals in developing key consultancy skills.

We later joined together to do a team-building tapas cooking activity, held at Leeds Cookery School in The Old Fire Station building. Together, we learnt to cook a range of tapas dishes, including Albóndigas in Tomato Sauce, Tortilla de Patatas, Padrón Peppers, Chorizo in Red Wine & Honey, Catalan Flatbreads. And, at the end of all that hard work in the kitchen, we got to sit down together and enjoy the yummy dishes we made as a team!

The team at Leeds Cookery School were fantastic, and they run a range of classes, courses and events, donating 100% of the profits to Zest, a local Leeds charity supporting people living in disadvantaged areas of the city. Zest carry out a large number of projects including running social clubs, helping families to access food in the school holidays, supporting people to combat loneliness while developing cooking skills, and lots more in between! So, the classes, like the one we took part in, help to fund these experiences in the community.

If you’re wondering how you can join us in helping such a fantastic community initiative, please take a look at the Leed Cookery School and Zest websites.

Achieving nutrient neutrality is a challenging task, and is one that developers all over the country have battled to achieve over the last 5-6 years. In March 2022, Natural England issued a directive to Local Planning Authorities, County Councils, the Environment Agency, the Planning Inspectorate, Natural Resources Wales, and DLUHC stating that, in specific river catchments, developments should not be permitted if the LPA cannot definitively ensure that it will not adversely impact protected environmental sites due to increased levels of nitrate and/or phosphate. Whilst there is an approach which is efficient, robust and objective, it can be equally as slow, expensive and over burdensome, leaving housing developers with the potential for project delays and increased costs. James, can you tell us more about nutrient neutrality?

We're thrilled to welcome Bethan Joule to our growing Shrewsbury office! Bethan joins us as a Senior Hydrogeologist, bringing over six years of experience in technical roles at Wardell Armstrong. Prior to this, she graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with an MSc in Environmental Engineering in 2019. Bethan is experienced in preparing abstraction licence applications, delivering Hydrogeological Risk Assessments (HRAs), and overseeing a wide range of site investigations — including borehole drilling and hydrogeological testing - across multiple sectors, including minerals, waste, and construction. At Envireau Water , Bethan will be continuing to provide similar hydrogeological services to our extensive client base whilst also developing complimentary skills across our broad range of sectors.

Across the globe, plastic pollution is becoming an increasingly crucial topic, with an estimated 400 million tonnes being produced every year world wide. While the focus is often on visible plastic (including bottles, bags, and packaging), a growing body of research is turning its attention to the invisible threat of microplastics and emerging contaminants, which are increasingly finding their way into water sources, food chains and even the air we breathe. What are microplastics? Microplastics are a growing threat to the health of our planet. Despite being barely visible, these tiny plastic particles account for roughly 8% of global plastic waste, a number that is set to increase in the coming years.
