We work with breweries and the wider beverages industry, helping businesses to secure groundwater supplies through boreholes. As a brewery grows and their demand for water increases, investing in a private water supply makes financial sense. At scale, a borehole supply can be cheaper than using mains water, and it allows brewers greater control over the quality of water or ‘liquor’ that they use to make their beer.
In the right hands, boreholes offer a cost-effective alternative to mains water supply. But there is responsibility and regulation associated with obtaining the key raw ingredient from a natural water system too. Boreholes require careful maintenance and management if you want them to provide years of happy service. Our Borehole Users Conference in November will focus on borehole maintenance and rehabilitation this year. Another consideration is licensing – the abstraction of water is heavily regulated in the UK and all licences come with conditions that must be adhered to.

‘Brewing with Borehole Water’ explains all of these points in more detail. Read the online version here.
