Our Senior Hydrogeologist, Deborah Thomas, attended the 2017 Geological Society Career & Industry Day to speak to students about what a career in Hydrogeology entails.

The Geological Society Career & Industry Day is an essential meeting place for geoscience students and the geoscience industry, and is the most recognised geoscience careers focused forum in the country.

Deborah’s presentation explored the 5 W’s of Hydrogeology:

What is Hydrogeology?
Why would we care?
Who works in Hydrogeology?
Where do Hydrogeologists work?
When can you start being a Hydrogeologist?

Deborah also took the students through her career path to date. Whilst she is the newest member of the Envireau Water team, Deborah has over 4 years’ technical experience in hydrogeology, during which she has undertaken projects both in the UK and overseas. Internationally she has worked on various levels of mining Feasibility Studies in a wide range of sectors. UK based work includes environmental impact assessments; monitoring and impact analysis; and hydrogeological risk assessments, within the waste and minerals arenas, as well as water resources projects. Deborah graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MSc in Hydrogeology after having completed her BSc (Hons) in Geology at the University of Leicester.
