As the leading consultant specialising in the updated abstraction licensing regulations, Envireau Water was pleased to support the Environment Agency (EA) with a one-off workshop aimed at consultants/agents looking for an insight into effective New Authorisations applications across various sectors.
The regulations that came into force last year are expected to lead to potentially up to ~4,500 licence applications being prepared and submitted to the EA over the next 10 months. The regulations essentially remove the exemption from licensing for those abstracting or transferring water for trickle irrigation, managed wetland intakes, quarry dewatering, navigation and port activities, Drainage Boards and others.
The application process has some critical requirements and is different from the normal licensing process. The EA therefore held this event to provide consultants/agents with a good understanding of the process and provide guidance on producing focussed applications which can be efficiently validated by the EA. As James Dodds, Chairperson of Envireau Water has considerable experience of the process, across a wide range of sectors, the EA appointed him to help devise and facilitate the session.
There were useful take away messages and we’re excited to announce that we will shortly be launching a NEW area in the Envireau Knowledge section of our website to share information published by the EA that we think is useful. Watch this space!
