Environmental Scientist, Joe Shipperbottom, has this month started at ‘Hydrogeology and Water Management’ MSc at Newcastle University School of Civil Engineering. Envireau Water is sponsoring Joe to undertake the MSc on a part-time basis whilst continuing to fulfil his role here.

The course offers a mixture of theory based and practical field based learning experiences, as well as providing the opportunity to train alongside a range of experts. Groundwater Assessments, Groundwater Modelling, Pollution Control, Borehole Design and GIS are just a handful of the specialist modules that will be undertaken.

Since commencing the course, Joe has been on a field trip to examine boreholes targeting the coal measures and milestone grit. The students looked at geophysical logs and discussed the design, construction and monitoring of the boreholes.

Joe commented “I’m already enjoying the knowledge, practical experience and challenges that the MSc offers and I am looking forward to being able to apply these new skills and expertise in my role at Envireau Water. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Envireau Water for sponsoring and encouraging me to undertake the course.”
