The East Midlands Regional Group (EMRG) of the Geological Society is participating in the 2018 Geological Society Early Careers Award.

This competition recognises the work of geoscientists in the early stages of their careers. Taking part is a great way to enhance your communication skills and demonstrate your understanding of a particular geological topic to an audience.

The committee are looking for entries from their Fellows who have less than 10 years experience and are not Chartered.

Entries will be reviewed by the EMRG committee and the best 4 will be asked to give a 15-minute talk on the 8th May to the Regional Group Fellows who will award the regional prize.

The awarded person will then be automatically entered into the Geological Society London heats where they will be invited to present their paper at Burlington House on Friday 8th June.

This will be great fun and a way to get involved as a young geologist in the region.

For more information and to submit your entry, contact the EMRG committee on

The talks being held on Tuesday 8th May 2018, are taking place at the British Geological Survey offices, Keyworth, Nottingham. NG12 5GG. Refreshments are available from 6.30pm, with the talks starting at 7pm. Everyone is welcome – please come and support your fellow geologists!
