Innovation to Support Earth Restoration

April 23, 2021

Earth Day 2021 has brought together world leaders to discuss how we can prevent the worst effects of climate change. With the theme, Restore Our Earth, and the publication of Envireau Water’s very own climate change commitments statement, we wanted to take this time to not only share our environmental goals but also demonstrate a few of the ways our team deliver sustainable solutions to our clients.

A recently completed project supporting a 70-acre glasshouse development required a sustainable solution for a secure year-round water supply, within a closed groundwater catchment. With innovative technology to support the decarbonisation of agriculture, captured waste heat and rainwater harvesting, a 75% reduction in carbon emissions and 10x less water usage than field farming was achieved. By applying our regulatory expertise and innovative use of numerical modelling techniques, we provided Oasthouse Ventures with the sustainable solution they required to secure a year-round water supply.

As much as we all love the sunshine and have been embracing the recent warmer weather spell across the UK, the prolonged dry conditions are now raising concerns that England may be at risk of a potential drought this summer. Following an exceptionally sunny and dry April, which experienced just over 56% of usual rainfall, the start of May was also the warmest on record, surpassing the previous high set in 1990. With water resources already strained, it is more important than ever that proactive measures are promptly adopted to mitigate this risk, promote water conservation and avoid the potential for future restrictions. We asked Principal Water Resources Specialist, Tamsin Morey , for her thoughts on the matter... Tamsin, what dangers are we already seeing in the UK?
