Envireau Water is pleased to provide sponsorship for the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA) Annual Conference, the leading environmental law conference in the sector.
Taking place this weekend, the conference is focusing on “Past Reflections and Future Horizons: Environmental law in a post-Brexit World”, with expert presentations, networking and CPD. The UKELA is the UK forum which aims to make the law work for a better environment and to improve understanding and awareness of environmental law.
Envireau Water has been operating in the natural water regulatory system for over 25 years and has experienced many changes in the attitude toward environmental and water regulation. Our team has been at the centre of policy development as it has evolved, while we have been finding solutions to problems related to water abstraction; treatment and discharge; aquifer protection and risk assessment; flooding and surface water management; abstraction licensing and environmental permitting; environmental impact assessment and reporting.
Not all projects have specialist consultant input and sometimes things go wrong. It is at that stage that an Expert Witness might be required. Envireau Water provides expert witness services in all its core areas of expertise and the team have experience of public inquiry, crown and high court, tribunals and planning appeals.
The expert witness team is led by James Dodds and supported by Envireau Water’s Principals, Phil Ham and Lee Clarke, all who have successfully completed the Cardiff University Law School/Bond Solon expert witness training course.
Expert Witnesses play a fundamental role within the UK’s planning and judicial system by providing technical opinion evidence to assist Inquiries, Tribunals and Courts in reaching decisions. What is critical in selecting an expert is not only that they have the knowledge and experience necessary, but that they understand the role of the expert; what is required of them; that they can communicate in writing and orally in an authoritative, clear and understandable way; and in our opinion most importantly, that they are focused on the solution.
Although we are trained and experienced in full CPR reporting, in many cases we can provide more cost effective support via what we refer to as “Advice Letters”. These comprise a short report based on information sent to us by the instructing solicitor or client. The reports are often sufficient for discussions between parties and may be suitable for lower courts. In the event that a CPR report is required or the case escalates, then the Advice Letter will form the basis of a more accurate estimate of costs for a more advanced report.
If you need the services of an expert witness, Envireau Water is here to support you. Get in touch with James today on 01332 871 882.
