Technical Director

As part of our growth and development plan we are looking for candidates for a senior leadership role, responsible for project coordination, strategic development, technical championing and business development across all our services, to all our sectors and across the country, from a base in the Midlands.

This is a rare opportunity to develop and direct not only the second half of your career, but to contribute to a successful and growing consultancy, and work with an established, expert and experienced team with a background in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology and water resources planning, river restoration, impact assessment and permitting.

Envireau Water focuses on the natural water environment and people’s interaction with it. We work with a broad range of clients ranging from large multinationals to private individuals, across a wide range of industries.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is a strong communicator with demonstrable leadership and business development experience in environmental consultancy. The post is based in our Midlands office between Nottingham and Derby where we have an established environmental consultancy hub. We expect the role to involve regular travel across the UK and between our offices in North Yorkshire and North Wales.

The successful candidate will have at least 15 years’ consultancy experience and will need to evidence a broad knowledge of the UK’s natural water related consultancy sector and is expected to be a recognised leader, with a proven track record, in a specific water related discipline (e.g. Hydrology & Flood Risk; Hydrogeology; Water Resources Management; Environmental Permitting).

We strongly support and encourage equal opportunities, however the role will require site visits and surveys and candidates will need to be able to walk over rough terrain in remote areas. A full UK driving licence is essential.


The successful candidate will, amongst other things, be responsible for:

  • Managing staff performance (financial and technical), delivery and quality
  • Mentoring and developing all staff grades
  • Maintaining, securing and improving senior client and regulator relationships
  • Influencing, co-ordinating, growing and championing Envireau Water’s services
  • Technical and project direction, and leadership in the delivery of our services
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports and proposals
  • Working with director level colleagues and supporting the Board of Directors

An important part of the role will be in the development of the business and marketing. The successful candidate will therefore be expected to have relevant experience and provide a lead input into:

  • Business development, company representation and leadership externally and amongst industry peers
  • Implementation and development of business and project management systems
  • Identifying, developing and executing new business opportunities
  • Expanding an existing client base and specifically building relationships and developing business opportunities
